THR Honors Eva Longoria Parker
Actress and humanitarian activist Eva Longoria Parker has been named Philanthropist of the Year by The Hollywood Reporter.
THR's Philanthropy Issue on Monday highlights Longoria Parker and her philanthropic pursuits. The paper will host a private reception Monday evening in her honor in West Hollywood.
Longoria Parker was chosen for her relentless dedication to giving back to her community and serving others as well as for her long-standing commitment to Latino causes.
"I've never met a more conscientious and socially aware young, energetic talent," THR publisher Eric Mika said. "Eva's efforts on behalf of the causes near and dear to her are Herculean. She pours her free time and energy into raising millions of dollars for charitable missions that make a difference in the Latino community and other humanitarian organizations."
The "Desperate Housewives" star serves as the national spokesperson for Padres Contra El Cancer (Parents Against Cancer), a nonprofit committed to improving the lives of Latino children with cancer and their families. She came to Padres in 2003, when she began visiting hospitalized children.
In 2006, Longoria Parker founded Eva's Heroes, a nonprofit in her hometown of San Antonio. It provides an after-school program with an inclusive setting for individuals with developmental disabilities.
The actress also serves as exec producer, in collaboration with nonprofit producer Shine Global, on "The Harvest," a documentary focusing on the plight of the 500,000 child farm workers in America, most of whom are Latino.

Lopez Tonight
A wig-clad Eva Longoria Parker helped to premiere George Lopez's newest show, Lopez Tonight. They gabbed about things that go on in their personal lives while George brought out a stripper pole for Eva to make do on a personal bet they made regarding whether the show would get picked up. Desperate Housewives was briefly mentioned as George was throwing it to a commercial.
Did anybody catch the show? What did you all think? Leave some comments behind. Personally, I thought it was lame, very racist (I'm a Black woman), and incredibly boring. I couldn't wait until Eva's "interview" was over so that I could get back to watching the Steelers kick the Broncos in the mouth with 28 points. I thought that George would be a little funnier considering his comedy specials and even his former ABC show. Now that was funny. This was flat. I'll just watch my local news at 10pm.
Here are some captures of Eva from last night's debut of Lopez Tonight.

Eva Longoria Parker on her love of DVDs
"I think you can really fall in love with the characters on Desperate Housewives," says Eva Longoria Parker. "Most women identify with at least one of them – or a mixture of them. That's the feedback I've received from the fans. They always tell me, 'I'm totally like Gabrielle.' Or, 'I'm so much like Bree.' They can really relate to these characters and their stories."
Eva is excited about the fifth series of Desperate Housewives being released to DVD.
"I love season five because it jumps ahead five years to the future and we stay there. When the audience watches the first episode, you’re immediately transported forward five years and you think, ‘Whoa! What the heck happened?’ Gabrielle has two kids. She's lost her looks and she's gained weight. Nicollette's character, Edie, is back - and she has a new husband. You also discover that Mike the plumber and Susan have broken up. A lot has gone on. You're totally and utterly confused - and it sets up the stage for the unraveling of what happened and how we got here. I love that. I love the way we started season five that way."
The Golden Globe nominee and two-time ALMA Award-winning actress became a household name as Gabrielle Solis in the hit series, but she's a veteran of TV dramas, including The Bold And The Beautiful, General Hospital, Beverly Hills, 90210 and The Young And The Restless.
Eva talks about her favourite part of series five. "It's got to be the way we see a new side to Gabrielle. When she eventually goes back to her glamorous good looks, she still takes with her the experience she went through in the previous five years. She's not exactly the old Gabby, but she's the old Gabby in looks with the new Gabby inside."
The series five DVD offers some exciting extras, which Eva enthuses about. "The fans get to see our own personalities behind the scenes, as well as our interaction with each other. It's a voyeuristic view that I think all fans wish they could experience much more. I think they’re going to love it.
"I'm a big DVD person. I love watching a show straight through. In fact, that's how I watch Lost. Tony and I always take the new Lost DVD on vacation and we watch it straight through. Usually, we're on an island in the middle of nowhere, so think to ourselves, 'Should we really be watching this?’ It gets a little creepy, but we love it.
"I love the blooper reel - especially if I’m on it. You know what? There are always bloopers involving me because I'm the queen of bloopers. No, wait a minute… Actually, Nicollette Sheridan has the most bloopers, but they’re always hilarious to watch. I also love those behind-the-scenes features on DVDs." Desperate Housewives series five is out now on DVD.
